Welcome to summerreading.org, the summer reading website of the three NYC public library systems: Brooklyn Public Library, The New York Public Library and Queens Public Library in partnership with the NYC Department of Education. The New York City summer reading program is designed to fight “Summer Slide”, the phenomenon where students who don’t read over the summer lose some of the reading skills they developed during the previous school year. Those skills must then be re-taught starting in September when students return to school.
We encourage educators to get their students involved in the NYC summer reading program even before summer begins. Get your students excited about the program in school by having them create accounts in summerreading.org, visiting their public libraries and inviting librarians to come and visit your school.
